Last week Development & High Performance Senior Manager at Badminton Europe, Jacob Oehlenschlæger visited Finland to provide his input on coaching the stars of the future.

The Representative Visits provide MAs with an opportunity to receive direct BEC support in the form of a visit (or visits) from a BEC representative to their country. The Representative Visit is also an opportunity to further develop the relationship between the MA and the BEC Office staff.

Back on the 21st of August to the 23rd of August such a visit was held in Helsinki, Finland, where Talent Development and High Performance strategy were the main areas. Jacob Oehlenschlæger, Development & High Performance Senior Manager, from Badminton Europe Confederation (BEC) attended the visit.

During his visit, Jacob Oehlenschlæger gave his input to 36 club leaders and coaches as well as the staff of Badminton Finland, and prominent names like:

Jaakko Maki-Petaja, President

Ville Valorintha, General Secretary

Anu Niemenen, National Head Coach

Jani Tanskanen, Finnish Olympic Committee

attended the coach forum

A great inspiration

Ville Valorintha, General Secretary, and Anu Niemenen, National Head Coach, were both very happy about Jacob Oehlenschlæger coming to Finland to share his knowledge in the development area.

- Jacob for sure has a lot of knowledge that we can be inspired of. We want to see badminton develop in Finland, and to match the ambitions that we have we need input from people who know the sport. Jacob has been a great inspiration and I am sure that Badminton Finland and the badminton community in Finland have a very interesting future, said Ville Valorintha, the CEO of Badminton Finland.

- Finally, I would like to thank Badminton Europe for the cooperation. Soon big events will take place here in our country, where we will welcome the biggest stars and the future of European badminton. Having Badminton Europe staff here as part of our coach forum shows me that the relationship between Badminton Europe and Badminton Finland is great.

- I know Jacob as a great coach and as a person who knows development and high performance. The fact that he is willing to share his experiences with us, is very important for Finnish badminton, and the know-how the organization and the clubs now have, will help us to achieve our goals of producing top players from Finland in the future, Anu Nieminen, stated.

Important forum

Jacob Oehlenschlæger was very happy to be able to share some knowledge and help Badminton Finland on their way to develop badminton even more in Finland.

- Anu Niemenen told me that for her a coach forum is important, because for her, it is important that the federation, clubs and coaches develop Finnish badminton together, and I completely agree. It is important to share knowledge and at a forum like in Finland you have the best possible options to share know-how. If badminton in Finland should develop and if Finland wants to create top players in the next 20 years, the coaches have a big job ahead of them, and they need all the input they can get. I am happy that the Finnish federation sees Badminton Europe as a sparring partner, and I hope that the coaches got some input they can use in the near future but also five years from now, Jacob Oehlenschlæger says.
