Mads Conrad-Petersen, speaking to Badminton Europe insists that he is focused on his own performance as the Olympic Qualifying year looms.

The Men’s Doubles player, together with Mads Pieler Kolding is one of three threatening pairs in Denmark, including Anders Skaarup Rasmussen and Kim Astrup who won the VICTOR China Open in 2018.

It is going to be tough

Conrad-Petersen admitted that it is going to be a tough contest to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo but stated that both he and Pieler Kolding have their focus.

The Olympic qualifying year begins at the start of May 2019 and will continue for the duration of twelve months.

- It will be tough because the competition is tough, and we are all great players. I just try to focus on myself and to try and improve all the time, as well as keeping the injuries away.

- We know that you can’t be at your best at every tournament but sometimes I put too much pressure on myself. I want to perform at my very best all the time even when my body is not actually at 100%.

Taking the positives from defeats

The 30-year old admitted to Badminton Europe that it was hard to take a defeat and struggles to cope than other players, due to his passion for the sport.

He also insists that if he and his doubles partner can improve the mental side of things, then they will be more successful, and believes it is fine lines.

 - I am not a great loser because I can get very frustrated every time I lose but I also think that is why I have become this good.

- I try to learn from every defeat but of course, some are harder to cope with than others. I and Kolding need to be stronger mentally. We have been so close many times but have just lacked that edge.
