High-intensity doubles camp sharpens Europe’s rising talents
01/04/26 09:30

Badminton Europe reinforced its commitment to developing future doubles contenders with a focused training camp at the High Performance Centre, targeting players with the potential to break into the world’s top 100.

A total of 22 European players, supported by two visiting coaches, gathered for a week of intensive, high-quality doubles training—an environment many struggle to replicate consistently in their home countries due to limited training groups.

With participants representing eight Member Associations—Spain, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Norway, Czech Republic, and Belgium—the camp delivered both intensity and diversity, creating a competitive environment crucial for player progression.

The camp placed a strong emphasis on the modern doubles game, with sessions built around key performance areas: rapid decision-making under high pace, transitioning effectively from defence to attack, and mastering variations in shot tempo—from sharp, attacking pushes to controlled, soft blocks.

“We’ve set up camp in the fight for the initiative this week. No high lifts allowed unless absolutely necessary,” said Jonathan Søgaard. “It was a struggle in the beginning, but seeing the pace of play and improvement in decision-making evolve positively over just one week was amazing. If the players can return home and continue this trajectory, interesting things will happen. I can’t wait until our next doubles camps at the High Performance Centre.”

Building on this momentum, the next doubles-specific camp at the High Performance Centre is scheduled for 6–10 July, followed by a further opportunity later in the autumn.
