Para badminton took another important step forward in Azerbaijan with the successful organisation of the Azerbaijan Para Badminton Open Day 2026 in Baku on 17th April.

The event was jointly organised by the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation and the National Paralympic Committee with the aim of promoting Para badminton, increasing awareness of the sport, and encouraging greater participation among people with disabilities.

Held at the Baku Badminton Club, the programme featured presentations, exhibition matches, and interactive training sessions where participants had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Para badminton and experience the sport firsthand under the guidance of coaches and national team athletes.

Officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Paralympic Committee, and the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation attended the event alongside coaches, support staff, and players representing different sport classes.

In total, more than 20 participants took part in the Open Day, including athletes from the SH6, SU5, SL3, and WH2 classifications. The event successfully created an inclusive and welcoming environment while also helping identify potential new talents for the future development of Para badminton in Azerbaijan.

The organisers considered the project a positive step for the continued growth of the sport in the country. Future editions could benefit from even broader media coverage, a larger number of participants, and greater involvement from partner organisations to further expand the reach and impact of the initiative.
