Two Europeans made it to the semifinals, and now both are through to the final. It was a great day in Basel for Christo Popov and Line Kjærsfeldt at the YONEX Swiss Open.
Kjærsfeldt faced Canada’s Michelle Li, an opponent she had only played once before, many years ago. The Dane started strong with a confident 21-14 win in the first game but dropped the second 12-21. Still, she kept fighting, and she took the decider 21-17. Up next is a huge challenge: world-class opponent Chen Yu Fei. Let’s see if Kjærsfeldt can carry this momentum into tomorrow’s final.
Popov was also ready to give it everything to book his spot in the final of this Super 300 event. His opponent, Li Shi Feng, was no easy challenge. Despite making an impressive comeback in the opening game, it still went to Popov, 21-19. The second game saw a consistent Popov take control, winning 21-14. He now faces another Chinese player in the final, eighth seed Weng Hong Yang.
