Viktor Axelsen has secured yet another title, his first with Peter Gade as coach, while Robin Tabeling/Alexandra Bøje celebrated their first title together in their temporary partnership.
The duo, who began playing together last October, faced tough competition in the final but overcame it magnificiently with a decisive straight-game win against Indonesia’s Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, 21-17, 21-12. This win not only marks Robin Tabeling’s first world tour title but also his first Super 300 title, adding to his previous successes with medals at the European Championships and European Games. Alexandra Bøje was visibly emotional after the match, showing how much this achievement meant to her and this partnership.
However, top seeds Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva fell just short of the title, ending up as runners-up for the third time in the finals of the YONEX German Open. They fought hard but ultimately lost to Japan’s Mizuki Otake/Miyu Takahashi.
The Popov brothers also had great run at the tournament, reaching the finals and winning a silver medal. Their match ended in a loss to Korea’s Kim Won Ho/Seo Seung Jae, but this tournament marked the French duo’s first podium finish at a world tour level as a pair.
