Today was all about securing spots in the Round of 16. After some players qualified for the main draw and tackled their first round matches yesterday, the rest had their turn today -and we got to see some great wins.

Less than two weeks after parting ways with her 12-year partner, Maiken Fruergaard made a strong start with her new partners. Yesterday, she claimed victories in the women’s doubles with Natasja P. Anthonisen and in the mixed doubles qualifications with Christian Faust Kjær, advancing to the main draw.

Today, Kjær and Fruergaard’s quest continued as they fought for a place in the next round, delivering a superb performance in a close match against England’s Ethan Van Leeuwen/ Chloe Birch. It was a great battle, but the Danish duo edged out a win (21-18, 15-21, 21-19).

Reigning men’s singles champion Chou Tien Chen is here to defend his title in great shape and appears to be on the right track, securing a solid 21-14 21-14 win over Germany’s 20-year-old Aaron Sonnenschein. Despite the loss, the young German player can take pride in his performance against the world number eight.

Both Christo and Toma Popov successfully advanced to the Round of 16 in Men’s Singles and Doubles after their recent wins.

Christo, in particular, expressed relief at securing his victory, noting that he’s been facing challenges lately in his winning record. He remarked on the heightened motivation and determination of lower-ranked players, emphasizing the need to approach every match with caution.

Tomorrow, the brothers will face new challenges as they compete in their Round of 16 matches for both singles and doubles.
