Tough beginning
The first day from the YONEX French Open 2024 brought us the first European matches. The opening featured multiple losses from European players such as: Marcus Ellis/ Lauren Smith, Toma Popov, Linda Efler/ Isabel Lohau, and Mark Lamsfuss/ Marvin Seidel who retired.

The first to break the curse were Delphine Delrue/ Thom Gicquel who gave the home-crowd their first victory. Viktor Axelsen also won his first match, in his comeback game after being out with an injury since January.
Following the short-lived success from the Dane and the French pair the remaining European players had the following unfortunate results:
Bjarne Geiss/ Jan Colin Völker also lost the first round 21-13 21-14. Alexandra Bøje/ Mathias Christiansen lost their first game 21-14 21.14. The last two matches were Kirsty Gilmour who lost a hard-fought three-game match against Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-13 19-21 18-21. The same could be said for Mathias Thyrri/ Amalie Magelund who also lost a three-game match against the Ng Tsz Yau/ Lee Chun Hei Reginald from Hong Kong.

Wednesday’s European matches
The remaining Round of 32 matches will feature Anders Antonsen, Carolina Marin, Margot Lambert & Anne Tran, Kim Astrup/ Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, Gabriela Stoeva & Stefani Stoeva, Ben Lane/ Sean Vendy, Robin Tabeling/ Selena Piek, Mia Blichfeldt, and the Popov brothers among others. They are all facing tough opponents, but the results will hopefully be better from a European perspective.
