Today the draw for the group stage of the 2023 European Mixed Team Championships took place in Aire-Sur-La-Lys, France.
In the city where the best eight European mixed teams will be fighting for the title from February 14 to 18 the draw was conceded by BEC Events Manager Tamara Geeraerts and French top-player Arnaud Merkle.
Here are the results:
Group A:
Denmark – England – Scotland – Ukraine
Group B:
Germany – France – Netherlands – Bulgaria
Denmark (reigning champion) and Germany (highest ranked among the remaining teams) were seeded as the heads of the groups.
From the six teams that made it through the qualification in December, England and France were seeded 3/4 and therefore drawn in separate groups.
The four remaining teams were then drawn for the remaining places in both groups.
"I think it is a tough group for France. We already knew that Germany is really good and [...]we always have a good fight against the Netherlands", said Frenchman Arnaud Merkle after the draw. The men's singles player still thinks his team has a chance to make a deep run on home soil: "I hope we can be the leader in this group and be able to not play against Denmark in the semis."
