Austria's doubles specialist Roman Zirnwald celebrated his first international title with a double triumph at the 2012 Bulgarian Open. Together with Elisabeth Baldauf, Zirnwald took the mixed doubles crown as well as the men's doubles title with his Malaysian partner Tan Chung Sean. The latter lives and trains in Vienna at the Austrian national training centre.
And it was the top seeded Tan Chung who also took men's singles title by beating David Obernosterer of Austria in three games. The women's singles event saw a great run by Alesia Zaitsava of Belarus who beat local hope and current U17 European Champion Stefani Stoeva in three games.
But despite the defeat in the women's singles final, there was still a moment of joy for Stefani Stoeva when she and her sister Gabriela proved too strong for all other opponents in the women's doubles event. In an all-Bulgarian affair the Stoeva sisters beat their compatriots Ivanova/Popstoikova in three games. The young duo from Bulgaria is currently number 64 in the BWF world rankings and for both it is the second international title after having won the Circuit tournament in Turkey in 2011.
