Para badminton development reaches new milestones in Baku

The BWF Para Badminton Development Project delivered another key programme this week as Baku hosted the 2025 Para Badminton Technical Workshop from 16th to 20th of November. The initiative brought together 52 participants — including emerging players, coaches, administrators and classifiers — from countries across Europe.

Organised in partnership with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Badminton Europe (BEC) and the Azerbaijan Badminton Federation, the workshop provided four integrated learning pathways:

  • Player training camp

  • Disability Coaching Level 1 workshop

  • National para badminton administration & pathways workshop

  • National classifier Level 1 workshop

Across three days of practical and theoretical sessions, participants worked with BWF and BEC experts to strengthen their knowledge in athlete development, coaching methodology, national structures and classification processes. The programme also created important opportunities for networking and cooperation between national federations and Paralympic bodies.

In recent years Azerbaijan has steadily expanded its capacity in the sport, and hosting this edition of the Para Technical Workshop reflects its growing role as a regional hub for development activities.

The participation of Badminton Europe in this programme in Baku reinforces our objective of supporting that more athletes with disabilities have access to professional training, expertise, facilities and long-term opportunities in para badminton.
