Badminton Europe mourns the passing of Rachmat Hidajat, who passed away this week at the age of 76.
Originally from Indonesia, Rachmat made his home in Germany, where he became a central and much-loved figure in European badminton. Over several decades, he dedicated his life to the sport — as a coach, mentor, and trusted partner through his more than 50 years of service with YONEX.

Rachmat played an instrumental role in supporting countless international tournaments and athletes. His deep knowledge, warmth, and professionalism earned him the respect of colleagues and players around the world. Beyond his professional work, he left a lasting legacy in German badminton as a youth coach and developer of young talent — helping shape a generation of athletes. In 2022, the German Badminton Association (DBV) recognised his lifelong contribution by naming him Youth Coach of the Year.

Rachmat was more than a colleague — he was a dear friend to many of us in the badminton family. His dedication, humility, and constant positivity were an inspiration. He will be deeply missed, both personally and professionally.
— Brian Agerbak, General Secretary, Badminton Europe

Badminton Europe extends its deepest condolences to Rachmat’s family, friends, and colleagues at YONEX, as well as to everyone in the badminton community who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of passion, kindness, and lifelong service to badminton will not be forgotten.
