The round of 16 at this year's Super 300 US Open was played during the night leading into Friday, with many Europeans in action.

At the 2025 US Open, both Line Christophersen and Polina Buhrova reached the semifinals, where their campaigns came to an end. This year, however, the two athletes met as early as the second round — and what a match it turned out to be.

Christophersen claimed the opening game 21-14 before Buhrova responded by taking the second 21-16. For much of the deciding game, it looked as though the young Ukrainian would pull off an upset and eliminate second seed Line Christophersen from the tournament. Buhrova led 16-10 before Christophersen mounted an impressive comeback, winning eight consecutive points to move ahead 18-16.

The closing stages of the match swung back and forth dramatically. Christophersen saved three match points and then missed four of her own before finally sealing victory and a place in the quarterfinals with a thrilling 28-26 win in the deciding game.

Christophersen's compatriots, Kristoffer Kolding and Mette Werge, also produced an excellent performance, defeating fifth seeds Rawat and Maneesha of India 22-24, 25-23, 21-15 after saving a match point in the second game.

Also advancing to the quarterfinals were second seeds Callum Hemming and Estelle Van Leeuwen, Misha Zilberman, Kaloyana Nalbantova, Christian Faust Kjær and Rasmus Kjær — who convincingly defeated the fifth-seeded Grimley brothers 21-14, 21-7 — as well as top seeds Ben Lane and Sean Vendy. Polina Buhrova also found redemption in the women's doubles, reaching the quarterfinals alongside Yevheniia Kantemyr.

Several other Europeans suffered defeats during the night, many of them in closely contested three-game matches. Most of them will get another opportunity next week when the Canada Open 2026 takes place.
