Birgit grew up in Middelburg, a picturesque town in the southwest of the Netherlands. Over the years, she has also called The Hague and Utrecht her home.

Birgit embarked on her educational journey at HZ University of Applied Sciences in Vlissingen, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sport Studies. Her passion for the sports sector pushed her to deepen her knowledge with a master’s in Sport Management from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.

Reflecting on her career beginnings, Birgit shares, “When I first started applying for jobs, I wanted it to be something in sport. Preferably a club, a federation, or events organizer. When I found the vacancy at Badminton Nederland, I was very enthusiastic and happy to be selected."

Her involvement in badminton started casually with school lessons and holiday games, growing considerably when she joined Badminton Nederland. In her new role at Badminton Europe, Birgit is particularly excited about managing the Tournament Circuits and organising major events. She explains, “I am most excited about being part of the organisation of Badminton Europe’s major events and managing the Tournament Circuits."

Outside of badminton, Birgit enjoys cycling, bouldering, playing football, and exploring new cultures through travel. 

Expressing her excitement for upcoming projects, Birgit says, “In February, the European Mixed Team Championships are in Baku. This is my first event with Badminton Europe. I cannot wait to go there and learn a lot about how major events are organized.”
