To celebrate the anniversary, President of the Latvian Badminton Federation Viesturs Bajars reflects on the history of the federation.
"This year badminton in Latvia reaches significant milestone - 60 years from registration of Latvian Badminton federation.
60 years have been divided in 2 periods. 26 years (1964-1990) badminton was part of Soviet Unions sports system, which had its pluses and minuses,and after 1990 when Latvia regained its independency, we had to start build badminton in Latvia once again.
During those 34 years badminton has got significant in several cities of Latvia, where it has been practiced.
Here in Latvia our goal is not to win gold medal in Olympic games, we leave it for Denmark, China and Japan, but to involve more and more children in badminton, which is fantastic kind of sport, demanding several skills, which can be used whole life!"
