Sandur, a village in Sandoy, one of the Faroe Islands, hosted a Shuttle Time Teachers course to revive interest in badminton in the community.
By involving teachers, Faroese Badminton Association looked at reaching out to students who haven’t yet taken up badminton, getting them to enrol at existing clubs or even starting new ones.
The course was held on 4 September 2024, and saw great enthusiasm from all participants.
Invitations for the Shuttle Time Teachers course were sent out to all primary and secondary schools on Faroe Islands in May. Clubs were informed that they could send new coaches to the course, which was conducted by Shuttle Time teachers Guðun Jacobsen and Bjørg Djurhuus.
Guðrun and Bjørg went through basic badminton technique, from how to hold the racket to different shots and how to integrate this into fun exciting games in a lesson.
The teachers and the participants were engaged throughout the day and the atmosphere was very positive.
This was the first Shuttle Time Teachers course in the Faroe Islands since 2018. As the residents of Sandoy had tried to start a badminton club a few years ago, Shuttle Time organisers hope that the current course will eventually lead the participants to start a new club.
