In a heart-wrenching turn at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Carolina Marin's quest for a second Olympic gold medal ended abruptly due to injury. Competing against China's He Bing Jiao and on the brink of victory, Marin was leading the match with a game advantage and a 10-6 lead in the second game when she sustained a knee injury.

Despite her effort to continue, visibly struggling for a couple of points, Marin had to retire from the semifinal with the score at 21-14 10-8 in her favor. This marks a tragic ending to what had been a promising run for the Spaniard at this year's Olympics.

Unfortunately, this injury means that Carolina Marin will not be able to compete in the bronze medal match tomorrow.
