Dramatic turnaround sees Stadelmann win

An intense match between Switzerland’s Jenjira Stadelmann and Ireland’s Rachael Darragh finished off today’s second session. Stadelmann narrowly clinched victory in the two final games, overturning a match point against her to triumph in a pivotal moment in the second game after losing the first one. The final score is 13-21, 24-22, 21-15, showing what a fierce battle it was from both players.

Despite their spirited performances, both have faced and will be facing a daunting challenge in Group L, dominated by one of the top contenders for the women's singles medal, Carolina Marin. For either Stadelmann or Darragh to have a chance at advancing, Marin would need to falter against Darragh tomorrow — a scenario that seems rather unlikely given Marin's formidable track record. It will be exciting to see if Darragh can surprise us.
