Badminton Europe would like to congratulate the Federação Portuguesa de Badminton on their 70th anniversary. Founded in 1954, the federation has been pivotal in expanding the sport within Portugal and beyond.
Over the decades, Portugal has emerged as a central hub for badminton in Europe, hosting significant events such as the RSL BEC Summer School, the 2011 European U17 Championships, and the 2014 European Senior Championships. These events have all taken place in Caldas da Rainha, the hub of Portuguese badminton and the national team's official training centre. The annual Portugal International Championships, along with the international junior and U17 tournaments organised by the federation, further highlight the country's active role on the European Circuit.
Horácio Miranda de Ornelas Bento de Gouveia, President of the Federação Portuguesa de Badminton, explained during this special day: “The first of July marks the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the foundation of Federação Portuguesa de Badminton. The last years have been years of evolution of the badminton sport in Portugal. In fact, the participation of Portuguese players in international competitions has increased, as well as in high-performance level. The cooperation with BEC is excellent, predicting more and better badminton in our country!”
