Norway has in recent times had great individual success in many sports, with the likes of Karsten Warholm in Athletics, Magnus Carlsen in Chess and more recently, Erling Braut Håland in football. Is a Norwegian badminton star on the horizon?

Doubles player Carl Christian Mork, 22, discusses what it is like play badminton in Norway.

- Since Norway is a small badminton country, I think the best place to find inspiration for goals is abroad. We can look at countries like Denmark to get something to dream about, but also other countries that are closer to us in level to see how they make things work.

Mork this year reached the quarterfinals of the Slovak Open in the mixed doubles with partner Solvår flåten Joergensen. He lays out his goals for the future.

- My current goals are a bit short term, but they are to reach semifinals or hopefully even finals and win some tournaments at future series. In general, I want to become more consistent with my results.

More inspiration and belief

Countries like Sweden, Finland and Denmark have been making positive strides on the circuit. Asking how this makes a player in Norway feel when observing this, Mork responds by stating.

- Seeing neighbouring countries do better than us has its positives and negatives, but mostly positives. Of course, it feels like we should be able to do better than we are doing now when we look at them, but at the same time it gives even more inspiration and belief that it is possible to do well.

Mork’s ultimate dream is the same as many others, to participate in the Olympics. Both 2024 and 2028 would be possible for the young Norwegian, especially as doubles players reach their peak little later in their careers. However, a more immediate dream for Mork would be.

- To get on the podium and win challenge-level tournaments, and I want to get some wins and good results at the European Championships, as well as the World Championships.
