Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov made sure that the spectators in the Carolina Marin Sports Hall will get a rematch from the men's doubles quarterfinals in 2017.
Last year, Mathias Christiansen and David Daugaard won the quarterfinal and beat the Russian 21-15, 19-21, 21-15 on home turf in Kolding, Denmark.
- Last year we lost in the quarterfinal; this year we need more. We are looking forward to tomorrow, it will be the same match as one year ago, but I think we have prepared differently and we want to show our best game tomorrow, Sozonov said to Badminton Europe.
- And maybe after tomorrow we will be in the semifinal. We really want to go to that semifinal!
Ivanov and Sozonov, who are seeded 4th, beat Milosz Bochat and Adam Cwalina from Poland to exceed to the quarterfinals which will start on Friday from 4 PM (CEST).
- The Danish are the best in the world
The withdrawal from the top seeded Danes does not make the Russians sleep any better at night, according to them they still have three other pairs to worry about.
- There are too many other Danish pairs here, Ivanov said and laughed, - The Danish pairs are the best in the world. Rasmussen and Astrup are a top 10 pair, Christiansen and Daugaard, Kolding and Mads.
- Too many good, good pairs. And Boe and Mogensen is the top pair in the world, but I think that there are three pairs that can play with them and we can beat each other all of us and it will not be a sensation, said Sozonov and continued;
- I think there is too many pairs that have a good level in top 10 of the world, and anyone of us can win the European title.
