Denmark win their ninth title in the European U17 Team Championships.
The grand culmination of the 2023 European U17 Team Championships witnessed a showdown between Denmark and Türkiye, resulting in Denmark's resounding victory and their ninth title in this competition.
Türkiye had maintained an undefeated streak until the semifinals yesterday evening, in a five-match clash against Ukraine that kept fans on the edge until the last point. Denmark also won all their team matches in the group stage and only conceded a loss in one single match, and faced a challenging encounter against the strong French team in the quarterfinals yesterday morning. The Danes have displayed prowess throughout the event.
The opening match set the stage for an epic men’s singles duel between Denmark's Philip Kryger Boe and Türkiye's Mehmet Can Toremis. An exciting initial start saw Toremis claim the first game but the fatigue from days of intense competition as well as Boe’s efforts took its toll. The Dane powered through the second game, securing victory with a commanding lead, ultimately clinching the deciding point and marking a strong start for Denmark.
Marie Viscovich continued Denmark's momentum with a great performance against Türkiye's Aleyna Korkut, securing the second point for her team in straight games. The men's doubles match featured Boe paired with Salomon Adam Thomasen, reigning European Youth Olympic Festival boys' singles champion, against Türkiye's Arda Dogac Atan and Veysel Tasdemir. The Danish duo prevailed against their Turkish counterparts to secure the third and decisive point, culminating in Denmark's triumphant ninth title in the European U17 Team Championships.
