Anders Antonsen [4] (DEN) took his turn today to play the quarterfinals in the Olympic competition. This was after he directly qualified for the quarterfinals due to his draw group, just like his fellow countrymen Viktor Axelsen, who also got a spot directly into the quarterfinals.
He played against Lee Zii Jia [7] (MAS). The last time they competed, at the Malaysia Masters 2024, the Malaysian took the victory on home soil. The Danish player, after an amazing 2024, hoped for a different outcome this time around. However, it was not to be. After a very close first game which Jia secured, the Malaysian took control over the second game and was leading throughout the whole second part of the match and ultimately secured a 21-17 21-15 win.
In the semifinal, the world champion Kunvalut Vitidsarn awaits the Malaysian. They will play for a spot in the Olympic final
