Maiken Fruergaard/ Sara Thygesen pulled off a stunning victory on the opening day of badminton at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The Danes defeated world number two Baek Ha Na/ Lee So Hee [2] in a three-game match, 21-18, 9-21, 21-14.
"It's a dream start,"
Thygesen told TV 2 SPORT after their win against the South Korean pair, "Of course it's a surprise when you beat the world number two, but we always believe.” Fruergaard added on their tactics: “We have a stubbornness and a will to keep believing in ourselves. We didn't have much to lose and we could see that Lee was mega nervous.”
