Reykjavik wraps up memorable showdowns

Denmark and England were the standout nations in the finals of the RSL Iceland International 2024, with Danish players claiming four of the five titles at stake.

In the women’s singles, Switzerland’s Milena Schnider triumphed, securing the title with a 21-15 21-17 win over England's Lisa Curtin. The men’s singles final was an all-Danish showdown. Mads Juel Møller emerged victorious against Mathias Solgaard, clinching the title with identical scores of 21-19 in both games.

The Danes dominated further in the doubles events. In the mixed doubles, Mikkel Klinggaard/ Naja Abildgaard won 21-11 21-16 against Ukrainian pair Oleksii Titov/ Yevheniia Kantemyr. The women’s and men’s doubles finals both featured Danish duos against English opponents. In a close contest, Sophia Lemming/ Cathrine Marie Wind defeated Anne Hübscher/ Magda-Sabrina Lozniceriu 22-20 21-15, while Benjamin Illum Klindt/ Magnus Klinggaard secured a 21-11 21-12 victory over Robin Harper/ Harry Wakefield.

The European Circuit is on a break this week. Coming up next, the Azerbaijan International 2024 will be taking place from 8 to 11 February. The International Challenge tournament will be available for streaming on badmintoneurope.tv.
