Liang Wei Keng/ Wang Chang delighted the home crowd in Shenzhen to a rollercoaster three-game final, and Chen Yu Fei secures her treble.
The world bronze medallists, Liang / Wang faced all action pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/ Chirag Shetty in the men’s doubles final. After winning the opening game, the tall Indian pair settled and forced a decider.
However, with the crowd’s elevated noise levels, the Chinese pair powered away, setting up seven match points. Liang / Wang then choked, proceeding to lose six points in-a-row, until finally finding something to get over the line, winning 21-19, 18-21, 21-19.
They have added a China Masters to their big China Open win earlier in the year.
Three times for Chen Yu Fei
Olympic Champion, Chen Yu Fei, has achieved what the likes of Lin Dan, Chen Long and Liu Xin came close but could not do. Chen has won three China Masters titles in a row.
However, the final did not go as she would have liked. After being second best in the opening game against compatriot Han Yue, it was clear that Han felt some tightness in her calf. Following an uncompetitive second game, Han was forced to concede, granting the title to Chen, 18-21, 21-4 (ret.).
First title for Naraoka
It was an all-Japanese men’s singles final, which conjured up a defensive masterclass by Kodai Naraoka against Kenta Nishimoto. The nimble Naraoka was able to wait for his opportunities to counter-strike and took the win, 21-13, 21-13.
Perfect record
In the women’s doubles, Nami Matsuyama/ Chiharu Shida were able to keep a high intensity to overcome their fellow teammates Yuki Fukushima/ Sayaka Hirota, 21-18, 21-11. This maintains their perfect now 6-0 record against this pairing.
A familiar sight
Zheng Si Wei/ Huang Ya Qiong were on top again in the mixed doubles following a comprehensive 21-10, 21-11 win over World Champions Seo Seung Jae/ Chae Yu Jung. That's title number five in 2023 for the Chinese duo.
