Carolina Marin and Viktor Axelsen have secured their spots in tomorrow's semifinals at the KAPAL API GROUP Indonesia Open.

Carolina Marin emerged victorious in a clash against a tough opponent, Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying from Chinese Taipei. “We had played each other many times. The key was to keep going until the end,” the Spaniard stated.

The encounter marked their first meeting in over two years, with Tai currently ranked third in the world. Marin showcased her exceptional form defeating her opponent 21-18 21-13. "I feel really, really happy, but it's not just about reaching the semifinals; it's about the quality of my play today. I changed my focus when comparing it to yesterday. I’m on the right track.”

Viktor Axelsen triumphed over Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen with a resounding score of 21-5 21-19. The Dane’s impeccable performance showcases his unwavering determination to claim the Indonesia Open title ahead of competing at the 3rd European Games 2023.

Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek faced a formidable challenge from Hong Kong’s Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet. Despite their valiant efforts, Tabeling and Piek were defeated, 15-21, 23-25, 18-21. Piek lamented their tactical errors, confessing, "I think we came up with too much speed in the end. We wanted to score way too quickly, and I think they started to play from then on and we made some poor choices and also easy mistakes which helped them get back into the game and in the end that cost us.”

Tabeling highlighted the positives that they can take away from this week in Indonesia, stating, "I think we showed a good level throughout the week, especially yesterday.”

Mathias Thyrri and Amalie Magelund faced a formidable challenge against top seeds China’s Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong, losing 21-14 21-10. Reflecting on the match, Magelund acknowledged the exceptional skill of their opponents, “They play really well. I think we also played really well, especially in the first game, but they are just really good and especially in the serves, they take a lot of points. We had a hard time to return them.”

Despite the disappointment of their loss, Thyrri expressed satisfaction with their overall tournament performance, saying, “We played two good matches. It’s positive tor reach the quarterfinal for us in the moment that we are right now. We are happy about the performances in this tournament, but we’re also disappointed about today now.”
