Miroslav Petrov, also known as Miro, is BEC’s new Events Officer.
Originally from Oryahovo, Bulgaria, a small town located on the Bulgarian-Romanian border, Miro’s move to Copenhagen, where BEC’s office is located, was not hard, but rather interesting. “I love to travel, and I have met a lot of people from Denmark”, states Miro. Despite not having lived anywhere else besides his home country, at the age of 25, Miroslav is ready to take on the adventure of living in this Nordic country: “The Bulgarian and the Danish cultures are totally different, but I like the Danish culture.”
Why badminton?
“I played a lot of sports as a kid - chess, basketball, volleyball, and even did Bulgarian national dances”, but badminton was the one sport that stood out to him. “My small town is famous for its good children’s badminton academy. Badminton very fast became my favourite sport, because of its speed and dynamics”, explains Miro.
After falling for the sport, Miro started working for the Bulgarian Badminton Federation, where he kept close contact with Badminton Europe and organized events. Besides that, the officer shares other responsibilities that he acquired: “I was an international umpire, Shuttle Time National Coordinator for Bulgaria, and also a coach”.
“I have worked in the Bulgarian Badminton Federation as an Events Officer and Marketing Responsible, but I also have experience in automotive companies, where I learned how to report and follow deadlines. All my life I wanted to work in something entirely connected with badminton, and now I am very happy that I have the possibility to work for the governance body in Europe”, expresses Miro.
What are Miro’s professional goals?
“My main goal is to develop and work in badminton”, says the new BEC Events Officer.
Miroslav also shares his favourite event from his professional journey into the sport: “My favourite badminton event was the European Senior Championship 2022 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This event has the best atmosphere and energy ever. The people were so nice, and the organization was one of the best I have ever experienced. I was an umpire there, but also wanted to help the organizers as I could”.
“I am excited about all the events that Badminton Europe organizes - every event is unique, and I meet badminton people from all over Europe”, says Miro.
Welcome to the team, Miro!
