Denmark powers past Egypt to secure their spot in the Sudirman Cup quarterfinals.
After a stellar performance against Singapore on the opening day of the TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2023, Denmark has delivered a convincing win over Egypt to secure their spot in the quarterfinals.
There is still a match to go in the group stage against top-performing China, but their 4-1 win against Singapore and their 5-0 triumph over Egypt places them on the second spot on Group A — meanwhile, 12-time Sudirman Cup winners China already have two 5-0 wins.
Today, it was Rasmus Gemke’s turn to fight in the men’s singles match. Gemke opened the encounter against Egypt with a win in straight games. “I think it was a really nice match. The pace and the control of the court were good, so I am satisfied with my game right now,” Gemke said after defeating “It is not the level I normally play on but of course it’s always nice to get some time on court.”
What would follow would be four more wins from the Danes. Their dominant display left little room for doubt as they got a resounding 5-0 victory grants them a pass to the quarterfinals. It became apparent that Egypt, despite their valiant efforts, struggled to match the strength of the European Mixed Team champions that wrapped up the remaining matches in 25 minutes or less.
On Thursday, Denmark will be facing mighty China — an unmissable clash awaits.
