The French mixed wins the match against Goh/Lai (Malaysia) after losing the first game and keeps the chances alive to reach the semifinal at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue won their second group match against Goh Soon Huat and Lai Shevon Jemie 16-21 21-18 21-17. “This win feels good. Really happy with the way we fought our way back today after a poor performance yesterday and the loss of the first set. Ready to go all in tomorrow for a spot in the semifinal”, wrote Delphine Delrue in her Instagram post after the match. With one win and one loss, the French pair must win the final group match tomorrow against Rivaldy/Mentari from Indonesia to advance to the semifinal.
Axelsen into the semifinals
Although there is still one round left in the group stage at the World Tour Finals, Viktor Axelsen has advanced to the semifinals with today's convincing 21-5, 21-15 win over Kodai Naraoka from Japan.
Axelsen started off strong, taking a 7-0 lead in the first game before winning it 21-5. In the second game, Axelsen was already leading 21-10 when Naraoka scored five points in a row before Axelsen closed out the match 21-15.
In his last group match, Axelsen will tomorrow play against H.S. Prannoy from India.
Astrup/Rasmussen are out
Unfortunately, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen have no more chance to reach the semifinals as they also lost their second group match today against Ahsan/Setiawan from Indonesia 13-21, 12-21 in 26 minutes.
Although the Danes were not at all satisfied with their own performance, they had to acknowledge the brilliant shape of Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan. “The daddies” have a great history as a pair as they won the World Cup together three times and the All England twice. This year, the titles have failed to materialise, but they have still achieved great results such as second places at the All England, India Open, Malaysia Masters, and World Championships.
Tomorrow Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup will face the reigning world champions Aaron Chia/Wooi Yik Soh in the final group match.
