Get to know Adam Hall

In this article, we get to know Adam Hall, the Scottish doubles player, a little better as he answers questions about what he would be doing if he was not playing badminton, who he would love to play the doubles with and his Ice Hockey connection.

Why/how did you start playing badminton?

- I started when I was four years old in my local Games Hall in Mauchline where I’m from. Both my older sisters played so I started and the coaches there were so enthusiastic, I loved it from the start.

What do you do in your spare time when you are not in the badminton hall or at the gym?

- I just got a Labrador puppy called Luna, so she takes up most of my spare time at the moment! Other than that I like to bake and spend time with my family.

What is your best badminton memory and why?

- Winning the Scottish Open in 2019. I had been watching that tournament since I was six years old, so to get to stand on top of the podium was really special to me

If you could choose one player to play doubles with, who would it be and why?

- Hendra Setiawan, one hundred per cent. He’s my idol so that was an easy choice!

What was your big goal as a 15-year-old? Why?

- Probably to win a Commonwealth Games Gold medal. The Commonwealth Games are really special to us as a country, as it’s one of the few times we get to experience a big event where we represent Scotland rather than the UK.

Did you achieve that goal?

- Not yet, but hopefully will soon!

What is your big goal now?

- Not changed from when I was 15, hopefully after Birmingham 2022 I’ll need a new goal!

When you are at tournaments, what do you like to do when you are not playing matches or warming up?

- Whilst I'm still in the tournament, I normally tend to stick around the hotel but do try and go out for nice meals if the schedule allows! Once I'm out I do like to explore around the place we’re in looking for some hidden gems!

Who is your favourite player of all time and why?

- Hendra Setiawan as I’ve mentioned before! I just love his style, he always makes everything look so easy!

If you weren’t playing badminton, what would you be doing then?

- I really liked Biology in school so I would have liked to have explored that a bit more! Dream job would be working with service dogs though. I think they are so fascinating plus I love dogs so it would be a win, win!

A fun fact about yourself?

- My first sport was actually Ice Hockey, not Badminton! I played up until I was seven but I'm still a big fan of the sport now.

Who has been your biggest support in your career?

- Definitely my parents, they spent countless hours driving me all around the country and funded me throughout my full junior career. I owe them a lot for what I've been able to achieve.
