The Iceland International 2019, which took place from 24 to 27 January in Reykjavik, ended on Sunday with the finals of all events.

An excellent performance has been done from the hosts players in this Future Series event that resulted in as well as a gold medal.  

Victory for hosts in the Mixed Doubles

In the Final the host pair Kristofer Darri Finnsson and Margrét Johannsdottir had an easy morning that led them to the top of the podium. They faced the English Ethan Van Leeuwen and Annie Lado and the match ended with a score of 21-13, 21-18 therefore the host pair won the title in their home country.

Second final for Iceland

Iceland participated in a second final, as well, in the category of the Women’s Doubles.

Whereas, the hosts Margrét Johannsdottir with her partner Sigridur Arnadottir fought valiantly against the English new pair Abigail Holden and Sian Kelly but the match eventually ended in favour of the English pair with a score of 23-21, 21-18.

Women’s Singles: tough fight

In the category of the Women’s Singles, there was certainly a tough fight between the number two seed Ayla Huser from Switzerland and Abigail Holden from England, seeded as number three. After a thrilling second set (24-22), the Helvetian won the game with 21-6 in the third set.

A very good start for Huser in 2019 since this is her first title after the Polish International 2017.

Danish win in the Men’s Singles

In the Men’s Singles, Mikkel Enghøj from Denmark competed against Kasper Lehikoinen from Finland. He defeated him with a score of 21-19, 21-17.

A very significant title for the Dane considering that it is his first title at a Senior Level.

Men’s Doubles: The gold went to Portugal

The number three seeds Bruno Carvalho and Tomas Nero from Portugal played against Mads Marum and Mattias Xu from Norway, who were seeded as number four. The match ended with 21-13, 21-11, giving in Portugal the first place on the podium.

With this victory, the Portuguese pair have strong hopes to qualify for Minsk, Belarus, which will take place from 21 to 30 June 2019 the second edition of the European Games.
