Today, Badminton Europe (BEC) has announced the Wild Card nominations for the 2017 European Championships in Kolding.
In accordance with the regulations for the European Championships, BEC is entitled to nominate one Wild Card entry in each of the five disciplines. It has been decided to offer Wild Cards in the men’s singles, the women’s singles and the mixed double events. There will be offered no Wild Cards in the men’s doubles and women’s doubles events.
The Wild Card in men’s singles has been offered to the French Badminton Association for the two-time quarter-finalist at 2016 World Junior Championships, ranked no 7 on the World Junior Ranking in 2016, Toma Junior Popov, who is also amongst the four nominated candidates for the prestigious award,European Young Player of the Year 2016.

In women’s singles, a Wild Card has been offered to the German Badminton Association to the European U17 Champion, as well as European Young Player of the Year from 2014, Yvonne Li, who recently entered the world top 100, after reaching the last 16 at YONEX German Open, beating several higher ranked players on home soil in Mülheim.

The third and final Wild Card has been offered to the hosting association, Badminton Denmark. They have been offered a Wild Card in mixed doubles, for the runner up from the Danish national championships as well as from the 2016 YONEX Dutch Open, Søren Gravholt & Maiken Fruergaard.
The Member Associations have separately been informed of the offered Wild Cards, and they shall inform Badminton Europe about their respective acceptance within the coming days. The Wild Card entries will only be final upon confirmation from their respective associations.
