H. S. Prannoy beat the reigning world champion and home favourite at the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2023 quarterfinals.

Making it to the World Championships semifinals is quite the feat but doing so by winning against the reigning world champion, who also has the whole crowd with him, is a great accomplishment. H. S. Prannoy has secured a medal by winning against Viktor Axelsen.

“I think it’s always good to win one more round, especially in big events like this one and getting into the medal round,” said Prannoy after his win in three games, 13-21, 21-15, 21-16. “It was really fun to play against Viktor with such a crowd.”

Tomorrow, the Indian player will be facing Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn. “I’m more than happy but this is not done yet,” Prannoy stated.

Axelsen praised his opponent’s performance and reflected on his game today. “I think Prannoy played a great game. I did not manage to perform the way I would have hoped for.”

This is the end of the World Championships 2023 for the Dane but with the Road to Paris underway, there’s a big goal and many opportunities to seize points and medals. “It’s part of being an athlete — you win some, you lose some,” the Dane concluded.
