Europeans fighting for a spot in the semifinals

It’s quarterfinals day at the YONEX SUNRISE India Open 2023 and many European players are still fighting for a spot in the semifinals of the Super 750 tournament in New Delhi. 

This morning, the first Europeans in line were Carolina Marín and Thom Gicquel/ Delphine Delrue. The women’s singles Spaniard player lost her three-game match, despite winning 21-14 in the second game. The world’s number one Akane Yamaguchi was stronger and took the victory, winning 21-9 in the decider. 

The French mixed doubles pair Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue also fought hard in a three-game match against Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong. Gicquel and Delrue started strong winning the first game 21-14, but the Chinese duo turned it around and won 21-15 21-12 in the last games. 

Mathias Christiansen/ Alexandra Bøje (Denmark), Mark Lamsfuss/ Marvin Seidel (Germany), Viktor Axelsen (Denmark), Rasmus Gemke (Denmark), and Gabriela Stoeva/ Stefani Stoeva (Bulgaria) will be playing later today.
