With the first stop of the Asian leg wrapped up, we now turn to India’s capital, New Delhi, for the YONEX SUNRISE India Open 2023.

After the thrills of the Super 1000 tournament in Malaysia that finished just yesterday, the new week brings the second tournament of the Asian leg. The YONEX SUNRISE India Open 2023 will be taking place from tomorrow until 22 January.

Two European men’s doubles pairs have been promoted to the main draw — France’s Lucas Corvee/ Ronan Labar who will face Danes Kim Astrup/ Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in their first match, and Christopher Grimley/ Matthew Grimley, who will be joining fellow Scots Alexander Dunn/ Adam Hall in the long European list of names competing in the main draw.

The Super 750 tournament could see the recently-crowned Malaysia Open 2023 champion Viktor Axelsen winning the title, something he did not get to do in the last edition. His opening match will be against Kidambi Srikanth, who last got to take the title in 2015. Another strong player competing on home soil is last year’s champion, Lakshya Sen.

Speaking of home talents, fifth-seeded Pusarla V. Sindhu will try to repeat her success from 2017 when she won the gold. After winning in Malaysia, we might see Akane Yamaguchi becoming the first women’s singles Japanese champion in the tournament.

In the same event, two of Europe’s strongest, Kirsty Gilmour and Yvonne Li, will be facing each other on the first round. Similarly, Gabriela Stoeva/ Stefani Stoeva will meet Chloe Birch/ Lauren Smith on the first day of the tournament. In the mixed doubles, Thom Gicquel/ Delphine Delrue will face Lee Chun Hei Reginald/ Gng Tsz Yau from Hong Kong, looking for a promising result after reaching the quarterfinals just last week in the Super 1000 tournament in Malaysia.
