Estonia's young badminton talent Tauri Kilks won two gold medals at the World Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament Yonex Latvia Junior 2022, which took place from 11 to 13 November at Sigulda Sports Centre. Tauri Kilks won the men's singles and mixed doubles pair with Elizabete Beryk. Players from England, Sweden and Ukraine also won other events.

Tauri Kilke, born in 2004, is currently ranked 3rd in the World Junior Rankings, but not for long, as he will not be considered a junior from next year. In the finals, Tauri Kilk defeated Indian Madhur Dhingra in two sets.

In the men's doubles, England's Robin Harper & Harry Wakefield won convincingly without dropping a set. In the women's doubles, the Swedish pair of Elina Ohling & Elina Rieberg also did not lose a set.

The women's singles was a more intense battle, with the winner Maria Koryagina having to fight it out in three sets against Sweden's Elina Rieberg in the finals. It should be noted that both semi-finals also ended in three sets.

In the mixed doubles, two Estonian pairs met in the finals, beating Ukrainian pairs in a tough semi-final. Estonian pair Tauri Kilk & Elisabet Berik were the better of another Estonian double, Andrei Schmidt & Amy Parsima, who were seeded number one in the tournament.

The Yonex Latvia Junior 2022 World Ranking Badminton Tournament featured 139 players from 12 countries including England, Estonia, Germany, India, Italy, Israel, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Ukraine and England. The U13, U15 and U21 age groups were held at the same time as the U19 World Ranking tournament.

The U19 World Ranking tournament was held in Latvia for the first time. It was already planned in 2021 but did not take place due to Covid-19 restrictions. So far, since 2014, Latvia has hosted the World Ranking tournament for adults, initially in Riga as "Yonex Riga International" and since 2016 in Jelgava as "Yonex Latvia International". Since 2019, Latvia has hosted the European U17 Ranking Tournament "Yonex Latvia U17", initially in Sigulda from 2019 to 2021, and in 2022 in Liepāja.

Latvia is one of the few countries in Europe where World and European ranking tournaments have been held despite Covid-19 restrictions.

The World Ranking Junior tournament this year is open to players born in 2004 and younger.

As well as the Yonex Latvia International Adult World Ranking Tournament and the Yonex Latvia U17 European Badminton U17 Youth Ranking Tournament, the Yonex Latvia Junior World Ranking Tournament is supported by the badminton equipment manufacturer Yonex as a general sponsor.

The badminton tournament in Sigulda was also financially supported by the Sigulda Municipality.

The tournament players received gifts from Lavazza coffee and Latvian food producer Aloja - Starkelsen. The tournament in Sigulda is organised by the Sigulda Badminton Club in cooperation with the Sigulda Sports Centre and the association "Badminton 100". The tournament director is Kristians Rozenvalds.
