This week in the European Circuit, we’ll be enjoying some badminton action from Hungary’s capital city, Budapest, for the 47th VICTOR FZ FORZA Hungarian International Championships 2022.

From Wednesday, 2 November until Saturday 5 November, the 47th edition of the Hungarian International will be taking place in the capital city of Hungary, Budapest. This busy week ahead in what is being a hectic month in the badminton calendar, with the Hylo Open and the BWF Para badminton World Championships also taking place right now, we’ll be seeing some interesting matches from our European talents.

There will be many of the players from the Centre of Excellence competing in Budapest. Fourth-seeded Katerina Tomalova, Czech Republic, will be playing her first match in the main draw against Slovenia’s Petra Polanc. On the same day, Slovak player Milan Dratva will face number three seed Chia Hao Lee, Chinese Taipei. Dratva will also be competing in the mixed doubles with Katarina Vargova.

Other CoE players competing in the tournament are Shaun Ekengren, Sweden, whose first match will be against Kennie King, Barbados; Anna Mikhalkova will be facing sixth-seeded Freya Redfearn, England and later against Malena Norrman/ Lia Salehar in women’s doubles with Polina Tkach; and Dane Josefine Redkjær Jensen will play her first match against Yasmine Hamza, Italy.

The champion of the 2017 edition, Dane Victor Svendsen, heads the list as top seed. There will be tough competition ahead, with many other players who’ve been successful in the European Circuit attending the Hungarian International as well, including Jan Louda, Czech Republic, and Magnus Johannesen, Denmark.

There’s a strong list of players in the seeded entries of the women’s singles event. Hungary will have several of their national stars trying to win medals on home soil — Daniella Gonda, Agnes Korosi, and Vivien Sandorhazi will all be competing from Thursday. Two of Europe’s top young talents, Ukraine’s Polina Buhrova and Bulgaria’s Kaloyana Nalbantova, are also ones to watch.

There will be plenty of opportunities for our European doubles players. Andreas Søndergaard, who achieved a great result at the Dutch Open just weeks ago with Marcus Rindshøj will now be partnering with Mads Thøgersen to get an important win. This could also be a great opportunity for fellow Danes Amalie Cecilie Kudsk/ Signe Schulz. Serbia’s Mihajlo Tomic/ Andjela Vitman, who have been escalating in the ranking, will be playing their first match against Dutch pair Gijs Duijs/ Meerte Loos.

You can watch all matches on badmintoneurope.tv from tomorrow, Wednesday November 2 at 9 AM (CET).
