A lot of Europeans are now beginning to play in Saarbrücken, Germany, in the BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament. It is the last chance for all players to earn points to qualify for the World Tour Finals 2022 in Dubai.

The HYLO Open 2022 started today, October 1 and will last until Sunday, October 6. Some of the badminton stars have been playing for three weeks straight at the Dutch, Denmark and French Open. Now for the fourth time, it’s game on at the German courts.

Ben Lane and Sean Vendy’s match was resulting in one of the first European victories at the HYLO Open today. The English men’s double won 21-18 21-16 against the Chinese Taipei players Su Ching Heng and Ye Hong Wei.

Rasmus Gemke, who faced Viktor Axelsen in the French Open final on Sunday and won the HYLO Open back in 2017, has withdrawn from the tournament.

Kirsty Gilmour, champion of women’s singles in HYLO’s 2020 edition is facing Supanida Katethong from Thailand tomorrow. The Scottish who also reached silver in the 2022 European Championships has now the chance to yet again conquer a good result in Saarbrücken.

Toma Junior Popov, champion of 2020’s men’s singles event is facing Mark Caljouw. After French Open, where Popov lost against the Chinese Taipei player Wang Tzu Wei in the round of 32, he has now the change to fight for the German title once again.

Toma Junior Popov and his brother Christo Popov (France) will also play together against the Chinese double Yu Chen Liu/ Xuan Yi Ou, whom are champions of the EAST VENTURES Indonesia Open 2022. The last time the brothers played together was in the French Open, last week. This time they have a chance to come back and put on their strongest game.

Christo Popov, who won Dutch Open 2022 less than 3 weeks ago, is also playing in men’s singles tomorrow, where he will face the Japanese player Kodai Naraoka.

The Bulgarian sisters Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva really enjoy playing in Saarbrücken. They already won the HYLO Open twice and are playing tomorrow against Serena Au Yeong and Katharina Hochmeir, from Austria. Will the reigning European Champions make it through the finals once again?

The Danes Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen will face the Scottish double Alexander Dunn/ Adam Hall on Wednesday. Astrup and Rasmussen won gold in 2017’s Hylo edition and are seeded second just below the Japanese pair Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi.

Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel are playing on home soil tomorrow. The European Champions are facing Ruben Jille and Ties Van Der Lecq from the Netherlands. Lamsfuss also plays mixed doubles with Isabel Lohau. Last week they made it to the French Open podium and tomorrow will face the Indonesians Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/ Lisa Ayu Kusumawati at the HYLO Open. Isabel Lohau is also playing women’s doubles with Linda Efler and tomorrow. The Germans will play against Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Pullela from India.

Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje, gold winners of HYLO Open 2020 are seeded players this year and will be facing Yang Po-Hsuan and Hu Ling Fang (Chinese Taipei) tomorrow in the round of 32. Yang Po-Hsuan just won his first round in men’s doubles with his partner Lee Jhe-Huei 21-17 21-18 and is now preparing for his mixed doubles match tomorrow.
