Tenth year of the European badminton spectacle

With over 500 participants, Serbia successfully hosted the Serbian U17 & Youth International Novi Sad 2022 from 23 until 26 June.

Serbian U17 & Youth International Novi Sad 2022, which was held from June 23 to 26 2022 in Sports Center "Slana bara" in Novi Sad once again managed to provide the first-class sports event and to justified epithet, the ‘badminton fairytale’. BEC U17 Circuit tournament and international U15, U13, and U11 gathered more than 500 participants from 26 countries from two continents – European and America.

Badminton Association of Serbia, under the patronage of Badminton Europe Confederation, Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sport, City of Novi Sad, Sport and Youth of Vojvodina, Tourist organisation of Serbia and Novi Sad created one of the most attractive sports events in Serbia.

During the four unforgettable days in Novi Sad, two spectacular international tournaments provided high-quality matches, an extraordinary atmosphere, and an organisation on the level of much bigger sports events. The event has justified the status of a significant event for the Republic of Serbia, the Province of Vojvodina, and the City of Novi Sad. 

A special guest of the tournaments was Richard Vaughan, member of the Board of Directors of the European Badminton Confederation, well known in the badminton world as the former seventh player of the world, two-time Olympian, and multiple medal winner at European, Commonwealth, and world-class tournaments.

The four tournament days concluded with the final matches and the victory ceremonies which were attended by Mrs Aranka Binder, Assistant of the Provincial Secretary for Sport and Youth, Mrs Jelena Marinkovic Radomirovic, President of the City Assembly of Novi Sad, Mr Nemanja Radovic, member of the Governing Board of Paralympic Committee of Serbia, and Predrag Marcetic, the owner of Tin Sped Company.

- The tournaments in Novi Sad can be considered one of the best organised European youth tournaments for years. From the point of view of the organisers, we know how much effort, desire, and energy have been invested to justify Serbia's status as a sports country and to be a good host. Satisfied and smiling participants, positive energy during all these days, and the good impressions of our guests from 26 countries, speak in favour of the flawless organisation of this sporting event of great importance for the Republic of Serbia, AP Vojvodina, and the City of Novi Sad, Radomir Jovovic, President of the Executive Board of Badminton Association of Serbia stated.

- I express my gratitude to the European Badminton Confederation for the selfless support as well as national, regional, and local authorities, to partners of the tournament: Victor, Tinšped, Bambi, Minaqua, Tourist Organization of Serbia, and Tourist Organization of Novi Sad for their support in the realisation of this prestigious competition, and many thanks to our special guest Richard Vaughn for being in Novi Sad with us, Jovovic concluded.

As well as the friends of the competition to the Tourist Organization of Serbia, the Tourist Organization of Novi Sad, the companies Tinsped, Bambi, and Minaqua gave their selfless support in the realization of this prestigious competition.

The organisers did their best to provide entertainment both on and off the courts. Besides high-leveled conditions in the competitive part of the tournament, the organisers provided a great atmosphere, and all visitors had the opportunity to spend quality time and socialise in a fun area with many games and challenges, an area for social networks, and lounge.

The best results in the tournament were recorded by Hungary with 14 medals in the U11, U13, and U15 categories, and five medals in the U17 category, followed by Bulgaria with a total of 11 medals.

Special awards for the most valuable player of the Serbian U17 & Youth International Novi Sad 2022 went to Petra Hart from Hungary and for the youngest player to Valya Makarska from Bulgaria.
