The Player Pathway Programme course was delivered 7 until 9 June in Holbæk, Denmark. Participants will now have a clearer idea on how to help players on their road to success.

Just one day after the BWF/BEC Coach Education Level 3 Course concluded in Holbæk, Denmark, 13 participants from 10 different countries — Netherlands, Malta, Iceland, Poland, Romania, Israel, Hungary, Scotland, Croatia, and Estonia — met in the same location for another activity that aims at further developing European badminton.

From the very first sessions of training until winning gold medals in the world’s biggest badminton stages, players need a clear player pathway, and that is why the Player Pathway Programme is of such importance. Through this, Member Associations will be able to come up with a plan that is right for their players.

- It is valuable to be here and get information from the experts, Mike Hay and Paul Ford. We can all use the knowledge to further optimise our multi-year training plan, participant Ilse Vaessen, Netherlands, said.

The three-day course focuses on group work and hands-on activities, covering a wide range of topics such as identifying and developing talent, gaining stakeholder support, and presenting high-performance atheletes at major events. Programme Expert and Former Head of Sport Engagement, at the British Olympic Association Mike Hay believes that the discussions on the topics among participants are a valuable part of it.

- It's been great to bring a number of nations together, discussing the challenges and opportunities across Europe to enhance their player pathways. We are delighted to be hosted by Holbaek Sports By, it's a facility that we all envy and aspire to have in our own countries

After all these days of deepening their knowledge, participants will have to develop their own action plan to present to BWF so that they can implement their player pathway plan. There is no doubt that Member Associations will benefit immensely from this.

- It’s a great opportunity to bring together candidates who are in a position to examine where their Member Associations are and where they aim to be. The applied nature of the programme helps spark ideas and push them to better define the next steps on their pathways. Putting the elements together in their final plans should provide them with a clearer road map towards achieving their goals, BWF Head of Education Programmes Sharon Springer said.
