Important and impressive win for the Dane at the Thailand Open today as she stuns world number three An Se Young.
This second day of the GR TOYOTA GAZOO RACING Thailand Open 2022 has given us some good matches but if there’s one that stands out, that is the biggest upset of the tournament so far, with Denmark’s Line Christophersen and Korea’s An Se Young as the protagonists.
Remarkable victory
Christophersen, number 22 in the world ranking, secured the win in 51 minutes in a thrilling three-game match, 21-16, 11-21, 21-18. The 2022 Asian Championships bronze medallist could have taken the win after a tough fight in the decider, but the Dane stood her ground right until the end to take what will be her first-ever win against the Korean player.

Fatigue could have hindered An Se Young after an intense Uber Cup, where she gave some extraordinary performances, but this match was proof of what Christophersen, who was part of the team that got Denmark to the Uber Cup quarterfinals last week, can achieve on the biggest international stages.
It was not such a successful day for the other three Danish women’s singles players. Mia Blichfeldt, Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt, and Julie Dawall Jakobsen will be waving goodbye to the Thailand Open today after losing their matches. However, despite losing, Kjaersfeldt gave a good performance against China’s Zhang Yi Man, 21-11, 17,21, 21-19.
The European Championships 2021 silver medallist will next be facing Malvika Bansod. The Indian player defeated Ukraine’s Maria Ulitina 17-21, 21-15, 21-11. Bansod struggled in the first game but then made a comeback to take the win and play against Christophersen tomorrow.
Nguyen wins against Vittinghus
Nhat Nguyen had to face Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus in the first round of the Thailand Open. The Irish player beat the world number 21 in straight games, 21-12 23-21. Vittinghus

The Irish player will be playing against India’s Kidambi Srikanth, number eight seed, to fight for a spot in the quarterfinals. The Indian player won against Brice Leverdez today 18-21, 21-10, 21-16.
