A BWF National Level 1 Classifier Workshop took place in Vitoria, Spain, from 27 February to 1 March. Learn more about this workshop here.

The National Level 1 Classifier Workshop is a Para badminton-related course developed by the BWF. It is open to anyone with an interest in Para badminton and the athlete classification. The workshop does not require a background in the field of medicine or physiotherapy.

A great initiative for all those interested in Para badminton
To encourage the delivery of tournaments at a national level, the BWF supports the development of national classifiers. BWF National Classifier Workshops are delivered at two levels.

National Classifier Level 1 & 2 Workshops consist of a combination of theory and observation sessions and are designed to support National Badminton Associations wishing to deliver Para badminton activities and tournaments in their country.

A wonderful experience
12 participants from eight different countries took part in a workshop that was hosted 27 February to 1 March in Vitoria, a city in northern Spain. The participating European countries were Spain, Slovenia, Sweden, England, and Italy.

- It was a wonderful educational and human experience that allowed me to get to know different people and the different realities of Paralympic sport in the world, stated a participant from Italy.

- I will give feedback to my national federation and then use my knowledge to help identify potential players to compete in our national tournaments. I also wish to attend the next Level 2 workshop, commented a participant from England.

The aims/objectives of the National Level 1 Workshop
  • To introduce the theory of classification in Para badminton.
  • To introduce the Minimal Impairment Criteria and show how these are applied in Player Evaluation.
  • To observe Player Evaluation under supervision and identify the stages and the roles of the Classifier in the process.
BEC is supporting its Members by offering a travel grant to participate in this course.
