For the first time, Serbia will be hosting a continental badminton championships.

In recent years, Serbian talents have begun climbing the stairs of European badminton. Winning silver medals at the 2017 European U17 Team Championships and winning two medals at the 2020 European Junior Championships, the Serbians showed that in the future they can be playing a significant role on the Badminton Europe Circuit and Major Events.

In 2022, the Serbian talents will have the chance to compete on home soil at the Badminton Europe championships for the very first time. The Athletic Hall Belgrade will be the venue of the 2022 European Junior Championships.

A natural step
The event will take place from 18-27 August 2022 and will include the team and the individual events.

- I am very pleased that the European Junior Championships will take place in Serbia. On court they have proved that they can deliver results, and it is a natural part of the development of badminton in Serbia that one of the biggest events will be hosted there, Deputy General Secretary at Badminton Europe, Jimmy Andersen, stated.

- We know the Serbian organisation, and there is no doubt that we have big expectations, he added.

One last chance
Players such as Viktor Axelsen, Carolina Marin, the Stoeva sisters, Anders Antonsen, Mia Blichfeldt, Alina Davletova and Rodion Alimov have in recent years won European Junior titles, and for sure the future stars of European badminton will be present in Belgrade in the late summer of 2022.

- This is for many of the players the very last chance to win a European youth medal, and some of the players have already been playing on the European Circuit, so the quality will be high, Jimmy Andersen explained.

Proud host
The Serbian host is proud that the Badminton Europe Board of Directors chose the Serbian federation to host one of the biggest badminton events of 2022.

- Happiness, pride and great responsibility. These are the words that best describe the feelings of this special moment. A series of really great organisational and competitive achievements of Serbian badminton are crowned in the most beautiful way. We have a big job ahead of us, which further motivates us. We will make every effort to gather a record number of competitors and countries, as well as to provide all participants with excellent conditions for competition and make their stay in Belgrade and Serbia unforgettable, said Radomir Jovovic, President of the Executive Board of the Badminton Association of Serbia.

- I would like to thank the Badminton Europe Confederation as well as the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the City of Belgrade for the trust and full support they provide us, he added.

The 2022 European Junior Championships will be a special event. If you as a badminton fan want to know who will be dominating European badminton in the future, you should have eyes on the event in Serbia.

- This is where the future stars begin to shine. Just look at the medallists from the 2021 European Championships, Jimmy Andersen said.
