Physical Commission meetings will take place in Brussels this weekend with around 30 members due to be in attendance. A welcome return of face-to-face discussions on the growth of badminton.
The Board of Directors will sit down together on Friday 29 October. Following this, with the Belgium International finals played on Saturday 30 October in Leuven, just 30 kilometres west in the capital Brussels, the badminton community gathers for some important discussions around the future development of the sport.
There is particularly excitement for these meetings, not only because this one is physical and not virtual but because this is the first meeting with the new Commissions. Through a recent change to the strategic plan, which saw Badminton Europe develop fresh focus areas and a new outlook on the direction, brand new Commissions were formed.
The new Commission areas are Entertainment, Governance, High Performance, MA Support and Participation.
Getting everyone involved
Despite the current hardship involved in organising an event with participants attending from various nations, through adaptation and strong information sharing, all is set for the meeting to take place. Brian Agerbak, Badminton Europe General Secretary, is very much looking forward to them.
-I am excited to have the opportunity to meet and discuss the interesting new developments on the horizon. We will be welcoming our new Commission Members and encouraging good discussion and engagement from everybody. There is a possibility of networking which can flourish once you turn off the computer.
Rich discussions and project planning are core aims for the weekend, making use of their time together sharing the same space.
-When you are digging into a bigger topic it requires some brainstorming and breaking off to do some group work to apply more detail. In physical meetings, the conversation is different and there is an opportunity to have some dinners together for some informal talks about how it’s going within the federations attending.
