French double star, Delphine Delrue, might wait months before she can walk on court with Lea Palermo.

It came as a shock for everybody watching the first women’s doubles between France and Japan. Lea Palermo had an accident and needed a wheelchair to leave the court.

The first reports are that the 2018 Mediterranean Games winner has suffered a torn ACL, which means that it will take months before she comes back on court.

‘Very sad’
Delphine Delrue was on court with Palermo during the accident, and two days after the match, she is still affected.

- I am very sad, because Lea is a very good friend of mine. I hope she will be fine, Delrue said.

- She is in France now, so we will have some updates soon, I think.

Recently back on court
After a break with Delrue focusing on mixed doubles, the plan for Palermo and Delrue was to start playing women’s doubles again. Now that has been changed.

- We were about to start playing together, but I do not know what the plan is. I have no idea. We will have to see after we get some answers.

- I hope she will not be out for a long time.

Mixed doubles still on
At the European Games 2019, Delphine Delrue and Thom Gicquel won the bronze medals, and the French pair is one to watch on the way to Paris 2024. But Delrue had big hopes that she would have even more time on court than “just” playing in the mixed doubles category.

- I was ready to play two categories, so I am very disappointed that we can do that now, Delrue said.

- Now I focus 100 percent on the mixed doubles with Thom, and then I hope Lea will be back soon.
