The Scottish Uber Cup team did not stand a chance against Thailand.

Scotland qualified for Uber Cup 2020 after winning the bronze medals at the 2020 European Women’s Team Championships in Lieven, France.

18 months later the young team stepped on court for the first time in Aarhus, Denmark facing Thailand, who is seeded 3/4 at the event.

Loss for the captain
First on court was the Scottish captain, Kirsty Gilmour, who lost in straight games to Pornpawee Chochuwong.

- I see her as a top15 player with potential to be top10, but as do I, Kirsty Gilmour said.

- She played very well today. Every single smash hit the line. You always have to go in with the realisation and acceptance that your opponent will hit perfect shots, and there is nothing you can do about it. I just wish I could have had a few my way, the European Games 2019 runner-up added.

Satisfied despite a loss
Julie Macpherson secured the European medal back in 2020 winning her women’s singles match. Sunday in Aarhus, she was back on court playing women’s doubles alongside Ciara Torrance.

The two young Scots lost in straight games to the world number eight, Kititharakul and Prajongjai, but all in all, Macpherson and Torrance were satisfied with their performance.

- I think we are pleased with our performance. They are a lot higher ranked than us, so we went out where and played our game, and I think we played quite well, Julie Macpherson said.

- Our game plan was not working in the start of the second game, and as soon as we started attacking again and challenged them in the flat “stuff”, we found that we could be the winners of the points, Ciara Torrance stated.

India and Spain next
Thailand won five out of five matches against the Scottish team, and now Gilmour & Co. can focus on the two upcoming ties.

On Tuesday, Scotland will be facing India, and on Wednesday a European clash awaits, when Spain and Scotland will be playing the last tie of the group stage.
