The Danish Uber Cup team kicks off the event tomorrow against Malaysia.

The Thomas & Uber Cup was postponed due to the COVID-19 situation but on Saturday the event finally kicks off after years of waiting.

- It feels great to be here. We have really been waiting for this. We have been ready since last fall and were really disappointed, when the event was postponed. Now we are here, we are ready, and we cannot wait to get started, women’s doubles player, Mette Poulsen stated.

Alexandra Bøje was born 30 minutes from Aarhus, and she has been playing badminton in the city of Aarhus since the age of ten.

- It is a big thing to be back here in Aarhus. I am looking very much forward to it. My family and friends are going to watch, so this is special, Bøje said.

Important opening match on opening day
The Danish Uber Cup team was drawn into the same group as China, Canada and Malaysia, and already on the opening night of the event, Denmark will be playing one of the most important ties of the tournament. The Danes will be facing Malaysia in the tie, which can define the tournament for the Danish team.

- It is a really close one. They have women’s doubles players who have improved, and we saw a young women’s singles player doing well last week, Mette Poulsen said.

- But we have a strong team and a young team. In the women’s singles we have some good players, and all matches of the tie will be close.

All in on the singles
The line-up for tomorrow’s team matches have not been published yet, but Alexandra Bøje gives her bet on who Denmark could win against Malaysia:

- I hope we will win the three women’s singles and one of the women’s doubles too.

Thomas & Uber Cup kicks off on Saturday, and Badminton Europe will be on site for the full event. Don’t miss on any of the action and keep up to date with the latest updates, photos, and more exclusive content on our website, Facebook and Instagram.
