Germany will be facing the host, their rivals, and a strong Asian opponent in the group stage of the Thomas Cup 2021.

The German team has arrived in Aarhus, Denmark ahead of the Thomas & Uber Cup starting on Saturday morning. All players have been tested at least once as part of the COVID-19 protocol, and all players have been practicing at the venue, where the event will take place.

Germany has been drawn into the same group as the hosts from Denmark, their fellow Europeans and rivals from France and last but not least the strong Korean team.

- Denmark is the team to beat
Last week at Sudirman Cup, which took place in Finland, the German team were playing close matches against Chinese Taipei and Korea, and men’s doubles player, Jan Colin Völker believes that the German Thomas Cup team has the skills to pull of an upset.

- My expectations are high, because we have strong team. We are also in a strong group, but I think we are ready for the fight.

- I believe we have chances in each of the matches. Denmark is the team to beat, but we also have good men’s doubles and with Fabian Roth as third men’s singles, he can also play at a very high level, Jan Colin Völker stated.

Tough battle between rivals
According to the 23-year-old, the Danish team is the team to beat, and the German team will do their outmost to spoil the local badminton party. But also, the clash between the two neighbours, Germany and France, is something Völker is looking forward to.

- It will be a tough battle, and I think that France has been improving a lot in the last couple of years. Especially in the men’s singles category, and with the Popov brothers, who play a very strong men’s doubles.

- I will be very tough for everyone here to play France, Völker said.

Thomas & Uber Cup kicks off on Saturday, and Badminton Europe will be on site for the full event. Don’t miss on any of the action and keep up to date with the latest updates, photos, and more exclusive content on our website,
