The Badminton Federation of Armenia, with the support of Badminton Europe organised a Regional Project in the capital city of Yerevan. The project included U13 and U15 players from Armenia, Russia and Georgia and was held on 17 – 23 June.
The focus of the Regional Project programme is to encourage Members to collaborate and form a development initiative to enhance the level of badminton in their region.
During the camp participants shared badminton knowledge with each other to develop the level of the U13 and U15 players of the three countries. There were 29 players and five coaches present, with an equal gender split.
-Everything was organised at a very high level. We would like to thank Badminton Europe and the Badminton Federation of Armenia for organising the camp. This project is very important not only for the development of badminton in our region, but also for implementing peaceful relationships through badminton among our countries, said Inna Zubova, Head Coach of the Russian team.
Sparring and sightseeing
The program of the camp included technical and tactical skills for the players. There was also a small tournament organised during the camp.
The cultural program of the camp included a road trip to Lake Sevan, where players and coaches were happy to swim and relax from the warm summer days in Armenia. The teams had a sightseeing tour in the historical Etchmiadzin Cathedral, which is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and the monastery of Khor Virab. They also had a walking tour in the Yerevan city centre. They ended the camp with a farewell dinner organised for all the players, coaches, sparring partners and the organisers of the camp.
-I would like to highlight the effort and the high level of organisation of the camp by the Badminton Federation of Armenia. The camp was a success, they organised such a big sports and cultural project in a short time. Our players are very happy and satisfied with this week, mentioned Sonya Vartanyan, the Head Coach of the Georgian team.
